Blue Shield of California Foundation Announces New Chief Program Director

Theresa Fay-Bustillos brings expertise & experience to the Foundation to help advance its mission

SAN FRANCISCO, CA (August 17, 2017)  Blue Shield of California Foundation announced today the appointment of Theresa Fay-Bustillos as the organization’s new chief program director. In this role she will lead the overall strategy, design, and management of the Foundation's programmatic and grantmaking activities as well as organizational learning and evaluation.

Fay-Bustillos is currently a strategic consultant for a wide range of philanthropic and non-profit organizations in California and across the nation. Previously, she served as the president and CEO of Community Initiatives, a fiscal sponsor organization that supports, champions, and provides services to unincorporated nonprofit projects that benefit the San Francisco Bay Area. Prior to Community Initiatives, she was the managing director at Ideal Philanthropy & Sustainability, a global consultancy specializing in strategic planning, research, and measurement to help foundations, donors, nonprofits, and businesses achieve social change and advance social justice. Fay-Bustillos has also held positions as a senior consultant with the International Finance Corporation; dual roles as vice president of worldwide community and corporate sustainability for Levi Strauss & Company, and executive director of the Levi Strauss Foundation; and as vice president of legal programs for the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund (MALDEF).

Fay-Bustillos holds a J.D. from the University of California, Los Angeles and has been a trial attorney with the U.S. Department of Labor, a supervising trial attorney with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and an administrative law judge with the State of California Office of Administrative Hearings.

Fay-Bustillos will join the Foundation on Monday, August 21.
