Erika Spicer (she/her) serves as special projects manager for Blue Shield of California Foundation. She supports the Foundation’s president and CEO in research and content development, as well as carrying out high-priority projects.

Prior to joining the Foundation, Erika spent several years at Blue Shield of California Promise Health Plan, where she served as a health educator and later as senior program manager for behavioral health initiatives. During her time in behavioral health, Erika created programs that increased Medi-Cal members’ access to preventive screenings and mental health services related to adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), perinatal mental health, and substance use disorder. She also partnered with providers in San Diego to administer state-funded projects that promote timely linkage to care after an emergency room visit or hospitalization for behavioral health.

Before her time at Blue Shield Promise, Erika worked at multiple nonprofit organizations in San Diego and Philadelphia that offer direct services and advocacy in communities affected by poverty, food insecurity, and HIV/AIDS.

Erika holds a Master of Public Health from Benedictine University and a Bachelor of Arts in journalism from the Pennsylvania State University. She currently is working on relocating to San Francisco with her husband and pup, who are her best partners in her favorite hobbies — hiking and trying new foods.
