Luis Granados

Chief Executive Officer, Mission Economic Development Agency

Headshot of Luis Granados

Luis Granados has proudly led the Mission Economic Development Agency (MEDA) since 1999. During his tenure, Luis has worked to create asset development opportunities for San Francisco Bay Area Latino families with low to moderate incomes. This work hits home. Luis immigrated to the U.S. by way of Southern California from Juarez, Mexico when he was just a teenager. His work and dedication are driven by that personal experience. This is why he advances MEDA’s mission on the daily: “Rooted in San Francisco’s Mission District, MEDA is advancing a national equity movement by building Latino prosperity, community ownership and civic power.”

Through Luis’ leadership, MEDA has developed a strong culture of service to effectively address the negative impacts of displacement due to gentrification. During his tenure, MEDA has become a strong, place-based community development organization with several business lines, including: becoming a backbone organization for the Mission community; spearheading the integration of a comprehensive asset development services continuum; becoming an affordable housing developer, which now has a portfolio of 2,200 affordable housing preserved or produced units; creating a Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) which has lent nearly $23.2 million to small-business owners; and integrating formal policy and advocacy into MEDA’s work to create systemic change, including the creation of 501(c)(4) organization.

Luis earned a Master of Science in city and regional planning from University of California, Berkeley and a bachelor’s of science from University of California, Davis. He also serves on a number of state and national boards:

·       Board Chair, UnidosUS
