New Staff Join Blue Shield of California Foundation

Program officers will support grantmaking and programmatic activities aimed at strengthening California’s health care safety net

San Francisco, CA (May 7, 2013) — Blue Shield of California Foundation (BSCF) announced today the addition of two new program officers to support its Health Care and Coverage program. Both Crispin Delgado and Rachel Wick join a team dedicated to improving access to care and driving system-level change for California’s underserved.

“We’re very pleased to welcome Crispin and Rachel to the team. We are confident that their experience working to expand access to health care for low-income families and improve the health care safety net will enhance our grantmaking and help us to achieve our mission,” said Peter V. Long, Ph.D., president and CEO of BSCF.

Crispin Delgado comes to the Foundation from the San Mateo County Health System, where he served as health policy initiatives manager, overseeing the department’s primary prevention strategy by working with regional entities and local cities to integrate health considerations into land-use and transportation planning. Mr. Delgado also spent three years as staff to the California Program on Access to Care, where he supported statewide and international health policy research focused on California’s most vulnerable populations.

Rachel Wick will move from the Consumer Health Foundation, a private foundation in Washington, DC. There, she served as director of policy, planning and special projects to advance the health and well being of historically underserved communities in the region. She also previously served as a program officer at the Consumer Health Foundation, where she managed the grants portfolio and provided program design, evaluation, and capacity building support to nonprofits.
