Highlights from our current issue: How the news frames domestic violence

In this edition, our partners at Berkeley Media Studies group share research on California news coverage about domestic violence. They find room to improve when it comes to including survivor voices and solutions. From their report:

Just 1 in 5 articles included a quote or anecdote from a survivor of domestic violence.

Solutions to keep survivors safe appeared in almost half of news articles (44%), although many stories focused only on funding or policy change at the state level.

Stories rarely included content warnings about graphic details that might upset audiences or resources for people who might need help addressing violence in their own lives.
