Korean American Family Services: Partnering With the Faith Community to Reach Survivors
Korean American Family Services (KFAM) in Los Angeles is leading a community-driven effort with Korean faith leaders to improve domestic violence outreach and education, increase referral sources, and develop innovative ideas and approaches to better serve survivors and their families. Building partnerships with local Korean clergy members is strategic, given that many Korean immigrants will turn to the church first when they're experiencing domestic violence. This culturally-responsive approach is helping to overcome existing barriers in the community — including social stigma and family traditions — that otherwise keep survivors isolated.
