Californians’ needs and experiences with domestic violence, equity, and safety
Results from a statewide survey
Blue Shield of California Foundation commissioned a statewide survey as part of an ongoing effort to document trends in Californians' needs and experiences with domestic violence and other key issues. The survey reveals that domestic violence is widespread and personally impacts most Californians. Nearly two-thirds are affected, and one-third identify as survivors. Encouragingly, over 80% believe domestic violence is preventable and support increased state investment in solutions, including mental health interventions and alternatives to incarceration. The survey highlights the need for state funding to address gaps left by declining federal support, and emphasizes the importance of systemic solutions for domestic violence, economic insecurity, and discrimination.
