Foundation Leadership Announcement: Debbie I. Chang named President & CEO

Raymond Baxter, Ph.D. Debbie Chang

Earlier this month, we announced that Debbie I. Chang has been appointed Blue Shield of California Foundation’s new president and CEO. Debbie will start at the Foundation on March 9, 2020.

Debbie comes to the Foundation from Nemours Children’s Health System, where she has been senior vice president and chief policy and prevention officer since 2004. She brings deep experience in the health field at the federal, state, and community levels. Throughout her stellar career Debbie has been a catalyst for innovation in addressing the social determinants of health – and for strong collaboration in prevention. She has led numerous ambitious partnerships related to family health. Most notably, she spearheaded a national partnership to combat childhood obesity and promote public health in collaboration with Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move initiative. I am confident she will bring great intelligence and energy to her new role at the Foundation.

Serving as a trustee for the Foundation and as president and CEO during this transition has been the culmination of my lifelong career in public health, healthcare reform, and social justice. I have a deep regard for our work in prevention, health policy, and domestic violence. Over this past year, it has been rewarding to be involved in the Foundation’s daily activities, working alongside our dedicated team and our community partners. I am pleased to report that Debbie fully embraces the Foundation’s ongoing strategy. In her capable hands, I believe the impact of our work will grow as we continue to build lasting and equitable solutions that make California the healthiest state and end domestic violence.

Please join us in welcoming Debbie to the Foundation.
